Police: Man Threatens 10-Year-Old Sister with Knife

A 21-year-old St. Cloud man is in jail after police say he threatened his 10-year-old sister with a knife. It happened Monday evening on the 700 block of Wilson Avenue Southeast, on St. Cloud’s near east side. Police say Cory Adam Grabuski threatened his sister with a knife and struck a TV several times with a hammer. The girl was not hurt. The suspect was arrested and faces charges of assault and property damage. He’s currently in the Sherburne County Jail awaiting his first court appearance.
Pledges Weak for St. Cloud Regional Airport

Financial pledges are trickling in for efforts to bring an air carrier to the St. Cloud Regional Airport. A month after airport officials launched a campaign to raise about $2 million in pledges, just a fraction of the money has been promised to provide direct service to Chicago's O'Hare Airport.
Airport director Bill Towle says about $250,000 has been pledged so far. Towle says they haven't been able to get some of the bigger companies and organizations to commit. Towle says airport officials are awaiting word on a $500,000 federal transportation grant.
4 Players Kicked off Elk River Football Team

The Elk River school board has decided to kick four football players off the team and suspend several others over hazing allegations. The board voted Sunday night to suspend three other players for four games and two players for one game. The names of the players were not released. The school district suspended its 54 player varsity program on Wednesday and notified police after a parent reported the hazing.
Police Chief Jeffrey Beahen has said some players reported being struck or poked by other players with a broom handle on their buttocks or legs. District Superintendent Mark Bezek says players will have to undergo sensitivity training.
DNR Holds Meeting on Muskie Stocking

The Department of Natural Resources wants to hear from the public on its plan to stock muskies in five Minnesota lakes or waterways. Some lakeshore residents and resort owners oppose the DNR's plan and say they're worried about the impact on other fish species and the additional boat traffic on the affected lakes.The DNR says muskies typically prey on whitefish, tullibee, suckers, redhorse and yellow perch.
The DNR wants to stock Roosevelt Lake in Crow Wing and Cass counties, Upper South Long and Lower South Long in Crow Wing County, Tetonka in Le Sueur County and the Sauk River chain in the fall of 2011. The DNR will hold public meetings around the state Thursday, including one at Cold Spring City Hall.
SCSU's New Student Apartments Under 50% Occupancy

The brand new Coborn Plaza Apartments at St. Cloud State are at just over 40% occupancy, according to SCSU Residential Life Director Dan Pederson. He says as of last Friday morning 190 students were contracted to live in the 453 living units. The apartments are the first phase of the university’s long-term development plan on that stretch of 5th Avenue. The Coborn Plaza Apartments feature 102 four bedroom units, 18 two bedroom units, three one bedroom units, and six studio apartments. Rent for a four bedroom unit is $696 per person per month.

Supporters of Husky sports can learn more about SCSU’s athletic budget situation at an informational meeting tonight. St. Cloud State President Earl Potter and athletic director Morris Kurtz will make statements followed by a question and answer period. The meeting will be held at 7:00 tonight in the Twins Room at the St. Cloud Holiday Inn.
St. Cloud Police Seek Unknown Attacker

St. Cloud Police are looking for the person who attacked a man with a knife in an alleyway near St. Cloud State. It happened just after 2:00 Saturday morning on the 700 block of 5th Avenue South. Police say they found a 22-year-old man from Savage bleeding profusely from his left arm. After investigating, police learned the victim was hanging out with his friends listening to a woman sing when he was attacked by an unknown man. Police say the suspect pulled out a knife and slashed the victim on his left forearm causing a severe but non life-threatening laceration. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of the injury.
The suspect is described as a white man with a shaved head between 5'7" and 5'9" and weighing between 160 and 180 lbs. He was wearing a black shirt and khaki pants at the time of the incident. He was last seen without his shirt and wearing only one shoe. Anyone with information is asked to call St. Cloud Police at (320) 251-1200.
Two Arrested After Altercation Involving Gun

Two men were arrested for allegedly threatening the lives of two St. Cloud men. It happened at around 3:00 am Sunday on the 600 block of 12th Avenue North. Police say the 24 and 25-year-old victims from St. Cloud got in a verbal altercation with four men. That’s when, police say two of the four men approached the victims, took out a handgun and worked the action, which caused fear in the victims that they would be robbed or shot.
Police ultimately arrested 21-year-old Shane Michael Brunner of St. Cloud and 24-year-old Johnathon Kyle Greenberg of Freeport. They were each charged with making terroristic threats and taken to the Stearns County Jail where they are being held for court. The other two men involved were taken to their homes.
Police Seek Assault Suspect

St. Cloud Police are looking for the man who allegedly assaulted a female jogger near Munsinger Gardens. It happened at around 5:00 Thursday morning. Police say the suspect approached the jogger from behind and demanded any belongings she might have. When the victim told the man she didn’t have anything, police say the man grabbed her neck lanyard, attempted to choke her, punched her in the face, and ran away. The victim did not need medical attention despite bruises on her face.
The suspect is described as a white man in his late 20’s with shoulder-length brown hair, a beard, and a deep, raspy voice. He was wearing baggy jeans and a dark colored sweatshirt at the time of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Cloud Police Department at (320) 251-1200.
Northstar Link Adds Service to SCSU

SCSU students who live in the twin cities now have more options for their commute. Beginning Monday, the Northstar Link Commuter bus will increase service to St. Cloud State. Additional weekday afternoon departures will be added from SCSU at 3:45, 4:45 and 6:15. The additions to the schedule are in response to customer feedback and a growing market of student riders. The cost to ride is $1.50 to the Northstar Commuter Rail station in Big Lake. Train tickets between Big Lake and Minneapolis are an additional cost. For a detailed schedule, click here.
Two in Hospital After Crash in Foley

Two are seriously injured after a two car crash in Foley. It happened Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of County Road 6 and County Road 4. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office says 43-year-old Steven Lovett of Foley was driving his SUV, failed to stop at a stop sign, and broadsided a car driven by 60-year-old Linda Schlichting of Rice. Both drivers sustained serious injuries. Schlichting was taken to the hospital via ambulance. Lovett was airlifted to the hospital.
Drugs and Loaded Guns Seized in St. Cloud

Two St. Cloud men were arrested for allegedly possessing drugs and guns. Officers executed a search warrant Wednesday on the 900 block of 12th Avenue North, where police say they seized marijuana, heroin, oxycontin pills, mushrooms, drug paraphernalia, and two loaded guns. 35-year-old Charles Richard Smith and 27-year-old Ben Cole Hanson are being held in the Stearns County Jail on charges of firearm and drug possession.
Elk River Football Suspended Over Hazing Claim

Elk River's varsity football team has been suspended as police investigate allegations of hazing. Captain Bob Kluntz says the department was contacted by the district on Wednesday. He would not characterize the type of hazing, but says it could involve criminal assault. Kluntz says any hazing victims should contact police. He expects the investigation to take at least until next week. Football coach Mike Cross says he has no comment. Elk River district spokesman Casey Mahon says the hazing appears to be more than an isolated incident.
