Registration for 33 1/3: Trivia Long Play Is Open

Registration kits for KVSC's 33rd annual Trivia Weekend contest are now available for pick up at the station or as a PDF download. Our friends at UTVS did a fine job designing the official poster for 33 1/3: Trivia Long Play. Registration continues until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 10, 2012--prior to the start of the 50-hour contest beginning at 5 p.m. that night.

Trivia Weekend is also a great way to volunteer your time by helping run the phone bank. Volunteers can expect to work in three hour shifts and are needed throughout the weekend. Our volunteers are treated well--around 40 local businesses provide tasty food throughout the weekend. Volunteers who put in 15 hours or more get a free 33 1/3: Trivia Long Play T-shirt.

Fleet Foxes Take 2011 Album of the Year

The 2011 Top 88 Countdown show aired Tuesday and Fleet Foxes have snagged the No. 1 spot with the "Helplessness Blues." Many thanks to all who voted and listened to the Top 88 Countdown show.

"Helplessness Blues" is the second full-length album after the breakthrough self-titled album in 2008. After a couple EPs and a few well-played singles, "Helplessness Blues" is "comparatively deeper, more intricate, and more complex, a triumphant follow-up to a blockbuster debut." (Pitchfork).

Tom Waits, The Black Keys, My Morning Jacket and M83 round out the top five spots. Check out the rest of the albums that made the cut on KVSC's Top 88 for 2011 and see if your favorite albums made the list.

Do you have a song stuck in your head you heard on Your Sound Alternative? We play a lot of catchy songs from independent and local artists, so that happens from time to time. No need to worry though. We provide a feature that gives you access to current songs and archived playlists.

Located in the "Listen Live" player on the upper right of all KVSC.org pages, you can see who's on the air and what artist and song is currently playing.  Also, if you click the host's name you can view their profile.  If you click the track name, you can view the entire play list in real-time via spinitron.com. 

The archive link gets you to all playlists by all hosts.  Try it out for yourself!

Ever wonder whose voice that is on the radio?

While listening to your favorite program on Your Sound Alternative, have you ever wondered who the voice is behind the microphone? That's a great question! KVSC attracts more than 70 volunteer deejays, so it can be hard to keep up. To see who is hosting your show of choice, check out our Program Guide. PODCAST: Holocaust Survivor Henry Oertelt

KVSC.org presents an original production--the amazing journey of Holocaust survivor Dr. Henry Oertelt.  The entire podcast series is presented in episodes of the 18 critical events that led to Henry's survival of five Nazi concentration camps and a three day death march.  Henry Oertelt's compelling book, "An Unbroken Chain" was recorded and engineered at the KVSC studios.  KVSC is sincerely honored to be the audio archival source of Dr. Oertelt's eternal message of hope and dignity.
